AI-Native Small Business Marketplace
Software Engineer#1381
New York City · In-person, 4 days/week · Full-time
$180K–$220K base + 0.5% equity
About the company
This Series A company is building an AI-native marketplace for buying and selling small businesses. The platform supports valuation, matching, document workflows, and transaction operations, helping owners and buyers navigate a complex process with more clarity and speed.
The business has tens of thousands of users, more than 100 completed transactions, over $10M in monthly GMV, and approximately $15M in funding. AI is embedded across both the product and internal operations, with production systems measured on quality, latency, cost, and reliability.
About the role
This is a hands-on Software Engineer role focused on shipping full-stack AI products used in real transactions. You will own projects from problem discovery through deployment, monitoring, and iteration, working closely with engineering, product, sales, and operations.
The role is product and execution oriented rather than research focused. It requires strong ownership, practical judgment, and comfort moving between backend systems, AI workflows, and user-facing product work.
What you'll do
- Ship full-stack AI features from scoping through production and monitoring.
- Own 0-to-1 projects across matching, document understanding, and agentic workflows.
- Build infrastructure for inference, evaluation, observability, and model performance.
- Integrate AI into core marketplace and operational workflows.
- Partner with product, sales, and operations to identify and measure high-impact opportunities.
What we're looking for
- Experience shipping and owning production AI systems end to end, using LLMs, classical ML, or both.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and excellent Python skills.
- Experience integrating foundation models into products used by real users.
- Ownership of deployment, monitoring, evaluation, reliability, and measurable outcomes.
- Ability to turn ambiguous problems into production systems without waiting for a complete specification.
- Strong product judgment, clear communication, and comfort working across the stack.
- There is no strict years-of-experience requirement. Demonstrated ability to ship practical AI systems matters more than tenure.
Nice to have
- Experience with LangGraph, LangChain, LlamaIndex, vector databases, or LLM observability tools.
- Experience with LLM evaluations, retrieval quality, latency, caching, fallbacks, rate limits, or cost optimization.
- Background in marketplaces, platforms, fintech, small-business software, NLP, information retrieval, or recommendation systems.
- Familiarity with Go, GraphQL, React, or TypeScript.
Tech stack
Python, foundation models, machine learning, LangGraph, LangChain, LlamaIndex, vector databases, LLM observability, evaluation, retrieval, Go, GraphQL, React, and TypeScript.
Compensation & benefits
$180K–$220K base salary.
0.5% equity.
Visa sponsorship is available.
Location
New York City. The team works in person four days per week and is open to relocation.
Interview process
- Micro-call with The People Nook. Brief alignment on the role and your background.
- Initial company screening. Background, interests, and overall fit.
- On-site Super Day. Meetings with company leadership and engineers, plus a case study.
- Decision. The company aims to decide after the Super Day.
Why this opportunity
This role offers the chance to build production AI systems for a high-stakes marketplace where transactions still depend heavily on fragmented information and manual workflows. It is well suited to an engineer who prefers shipping over prolonged experimentation and wants meaningful ownership across product, AI infrastructure, and implementation.
